FOLK DANCING - THE ASTORIA SENIOR CENTER, 1111 EXCHANGE ST., ASTORIA.
MONDAYS, JANUARY 16 - MARCH 5, 2012

Instructor: Drew Herzig. Sample the wide world of folk dance. This class will introduce you to some of the beautiful, traditional dances from around the world. We will learn simple line and circle dances. The historical and cultural backgrounds of these dance communities will also be studied. No experience is needed, no partner required. Wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Be ready to have lots of fun!

Instructor: Helen McDaniel. Brief history of the life of Mohammed followed by spread of Islam as a religion as well as the political spread of Arab power in the world. A look at modern situations of Islamic countries vs. the Western World. Try to answer the question of Islamic Terrorism’s motives. Is it theology or political power that drives the quest?
