After a look at the definition and development of human speech, we'll concentrate on the origian of the historic development of English. The course will deal with Anglo-Saxon, Old English, Middle and modern English. It traces the impact of major writers, printing, commerce, sciences, mass communication and
foreign tongues on the development of one of the major languages of the world. We’ll also look at the status of English language learning and the future of our principal method of human communication. Finally, we’ll hear what people have to say about the merits of British and American English.
